I managed to stabilize the rose with glycerin: the flower stood for 4 months

I always liked flowers - single and whole compositions - covered with large glass caps. They do not just look like alive, they are really alive, only stable. I passionately dreamed of having at least one small rose, but I could not afford to give a whole bunch of money for it - the price varies from 5, 000 to 7, 000 rubles. Take and lay out 1/5 of your salary on a whim, albeit a beautiful one ... so-so idea. But dreams come true.

I accidentally stumbled upon a technique for stabilizing fresh flowers. This is a kind of embalming. The petals and leaves of the plant remain soft, the colors do not fade, as happens with drying. The whole secret is that the water in the cells is replaced by glycerin. A stabilized plant will delight with its beauty much longer than living. And most importantly, to buy everything you need, you do not need to be a billionaire. So I decided to conduct an experiment. If it works out, then my dream will come true. And in case of failure, the costs will not hit my budget.

The first thing I did was go to a flower shop to find a suitable rose. The bud should be resilient, the petals tight, the stem thick, and the flower fresh. I took a long time and chose a rose of the Explorer variety of saturated burgundy color.

The next step is drying and preparing the solution. It is necessary to put the rose in an empty vase for several hours. While it is “drying”, you can prepare a solution. To do this, mix glycerin with water. Glycerin can be bought at any pharmacy, and it is better to use filtered water. Mix in a ratio of 1: 1. In my case, it was 400 ml of glycerin and 400 ml of water.

The third stage is the immersion of the flower in a preservative composition. Before this, you need to trim the tip of the stem at an acute angle, or even better, split it into 4 parts. Then the glycerin solution will better penetrate the plant. Pour the solution into a vase and wait for a miracle.

In fact, for a miracle to happen, you need to properly care for the flower during the stabilization process. And it can last from 2 to 3 weeks. In the first 7 days, I cut the stems every day somewhere around 0.5 cm. And then I just added the solution as it evaporated. It is also important to put a vase with a plant in a place where the sun does not fall.

The fact that the process has ended can be understood by the droplets of glycerol that will protrude at the tips of the leaves and petals. My rose was ready in three weeks. To fix the result, you need to hang the flower in a dark place for another week to dry.

I still enjoy watching my rose. The petals did not lose color at all. Maybe they became a little darker, and the leaves acquired a small glossy effect. I did not have a special flask, I put it in a vase filled with sand. And I blow dust off with a weak blow dryer. My rose lasted 4 months, and then surrendered under the weight of time. But I am still happy with the experiment and will continue to decorate my house with almost fresh flowers.

In this way, you can stabilize not only roses, but also other flowers with dense petals. But you can also make panels of such buds or give them to friends and colleagues. A million ideas were born from just one dream!
