Grapes Gift Zaporozhye: characteristics of the variety and recommendations for cultivation

According to rough estimates, there are about 5 thousand different grape varieties in the world, of which about 3 thousand are grown in the CIS. The most popular table forms of grapes, the fruits of which can be eaten fresh. They are valued, first of all, for their medicinal properties, attractive appearance of clusters, pleasant aroma and wonderful taste. One of these varieties is the Gift Zaporozhye. Let us dwell in more detail on what characteristics this variety has and is it easy to grow it yourself.

The history of the cultivation of grapes Gift Zaporozhye

Gift Zaporozhye (synonym FVC-3–3) - a hybrid grape of Ukrainian selection, bred relatively recently (in the 80s of the XX century). The author of this creation is Zaporizhzhya breeder E.A. Klyuchikov. This variety was created by complex crossing of three complex-resistant varieties:

  • Kesha-1 (FV-6-6);
  • Stubborn chick (V-70–90);
  • Esther (R-65).

Grade characteristics

Gift Zaporozhye refers to early-middle grape varieties with a maturity of 135-145 days. Fruiting of a young plant begins 2-3 years after planting. The vine ripens early. In the midland, harvesting is carried out in late August - early September. In this case, ripe clusters can be on the bush until the second decade of October, provided that there are no frosts.

The Gift Cluster Zaporizhia consists of large berries of the same size and can reach a weight of 1.5–2 kg

Gift Zaporozhye has one distinctive feature - its berries first gain size, and then they ripen. The taste of berries is not very saturated, but harmonious, there is a light apple flavor.

The flowers of this grape are functionally female, therefore it is recommended to plant a bisexual variety with identical flowering periods in the neighborhood. In this case, pollination occurs without any problems under any weather conditions.

Many are attracted by the high yield of this variety - the yield of fruits is more than 70%. A characteristic feature is the tendency of the bush to overload the crop, therefore, measures are required to ration the inflorescences. Without these procedures, there will be a pea.

The grape bush Present Zaporozhye is characterized by high fertility. The fruiting coefficient of the variety is from 1.6 to 2 clusters per fruiting shoot

The bush tolerates frosts well to -24 0C. Nevertheless, in the central and northern regions, the plant is recommended to be sheltered and insulated for the winter.

One of the properties of the Gift Zaporozhye is its high resistance to mildew, rarely falls ill with oidium. The main pests that can damage the dense skin of the fruit are birds.

Despite the claimed characteristics of the absence of cracking berries, many winegrowers note this drawback, especially after heavy rains. Damaged fruits with cracks are recommended to be removed in order to avoid the attack of wasps and their subsequent decay.

From an excess of moisture, the berries may crack, losing their presentation

The ripened clusters of the Gift of Zaporozhye should be transported in a special way, laying them in boxes in one layer. This is due to the fact that the berries easily fall off the comb. The variety is suitable for long-term storage in a dark, cool place.

  • consistently high yield;
  • attractive appearance;
  • high resistance to fungal diseases;
  • frost resistance;

  • requires special transportation conditions.

After Evgeny Alekseevich Klyuchikov, began to distribute this breeding form, I immediately began to grow it and to this day grow it, and I will grow it. In terms of stability from early-middle large-fruited plants, there is no alternative to it. Gift Zaporizhia high-yielding form, he needs to normalize the crop, after which there is no problem with coloring the berries, taste, and also ripening the crop. In this case, the crop, leaves, vine on the bushes are not damaged by fungal diseases, as they say, before the "white flies" (snow) - really field resistance.

Features of growing grapes Gift Zaporozhye

Experienced winegrowers consider the Gift Zaporizhia unpretentious - the hybrid form adapts well to external conditions and quickly takes root. However, to ensure the normal development and high yield of the bush, it is necessary to observe the basic principles of planting and caring for the vine.

The specifics of planting a bush

Choosing a place to land, it is necessary to consider that the Gift Zaporozhye loves warmth and sun. In the shade, the growth of the bush slows down, the number of ovaries decreases, the ripening period of the fruits is lengthened. Therefore, it is better to choose the southern unshaded side of the site, protected from the wind. This grape does not impose special requirements on the soil, but does not tolerate moisture stagnation. Therefore, with the proximity of groundwater, it is necessary to lay a drainage of fine stone at the bottom of the pit.

Landing time depends on the climatic conditions of the area. In the southern regions you can plant a Gift Zaporozhye both in spring and autumn. In the central and northern regions, planting is recommended only in the spring.

It is important to know that this grape variety is not suitable for growing in regions with short summers. Berries may not have time to ripen before the onset of frost.

The pit should be dug no earlier than a month before planting and fertilized with organic matter. The dimensions of the pit depend on the thickness and size of the roots of the seedling. The optimum depth is 80–90 cm. It is necessary to observe a distance between plantings of 100–150 cm. After planting, the bush is watered with warm water and attached to the support.

After planting, the young seedling should be cut and tied to a support

Care Tips

Like any grape bush, the Gift of Zaporozhye for abundant fruiting requires special care, which includes the following activities:

  1. Watering. It is carried out monthly, excluding the flowering period. It is recommended to use warm water. Drip irrigation is ideal.

    Drop watering allows you to maintain a constant level of moisture under the bush, without sudden changes

  2. Loosening and weeding. Carried out after each watering.
  3. The formation of the bush. Most often for gift Zaporizhzhya winegrowers apply fan molding. It facilitates the care of the vine and the collection of brushes. In the south, gazebo molding is allowed, which helps to improve the quality of the crop, increase sugar content, and extend the shelf life.

    Fan stamping makes it possible to rationally use the space allocated to the grape bush

  4. Pruning. Gift Zaporozhye requires frequent scraps. The first pruning is carried out immediately after planting a young bush: three shoots are left on the branch. Every year in August, minting is carried out, cutting the vines to a normal leaf, so the plant will retain the nutrients necessary for wintering. Every autumn, the bush is pruned after harvesting and leaf fall, removing all young shoots half a meter from the ground; 3-4 ocelli leave on the lateral and lower shoots, 7-12 ocelli on the upper ones.

    Pruning the grape bush can be done as follows.

  5. Fertilizer. It is carried out by mineral substances once a month.
  6. Improving pollination. The procedure is optional, but under adverse weather conditions during flowering, it helps to avoid berries peeling. It implies the use of Gibberellin and other drugs that facilitate pollination.
  7. Pest protection. You can protect the fruits from the invasion of birds that can destroy most of the crop with the help of rattles, scarecrows, sparkling objects. However, these are temporary methods, as the birds cease to be afraid of them. More reliable is the use of special protective nets.

    Grape growers who care about the crop protect it from pests with a special net

  8. Protection against diseases. Due to the high resistance of the variety to fungal diseases, prophylactic treatment with Bordeaux liquid or vitriol is performed 1-2 times for the entire growing season.
  9. Shelter for the winter. It is required in the first three years of the life of the vines and annually in areas with a cold climate. After leaf fall and pruning, the vines are removed from the canopy and covered with special materials, and the base of the bush is insulated with coniferous branches.

Gift Zaporozhye has good compatibility with many grape varieties. Therefore, it is an excellent graft and stock for vaccination.

This year I had the first fruiting of the PZ for the third year. Pollination is excellent, there is no peeling, stability is one of the best, the load pulls like an ox. Only ripening is a little delayed, although the vine ripens very early. Thanks to Klyuchikov Evgeny Alekseevich.

Gift Zaporizhia grow 4 bushes for more than 6 years. This variety has advantages, as well as its drawbacks. One of its advantages is its very good mildew resistance. Very tall. Despite the female type of flowering, it is almost always pollinated well. When treated with gibberelin, the berries are lengthened, and most berries become seedless with very large berries and bunches. Before ripening, you need to pick off the leaves near the bunch, then they acquire a more marketable color of berries. The berries are green in the shade. Among the shortcomings: it is really a greenish color of berries, the ripening period is a bit late (I mean the northern part of Ukraine), it is very fruitful and always overloaded, therefore it requires a gentle normalization by the crop. During the autumn rains, the berries may crack. I’m not going to part with this variety yet, but I will reduce the number to 2 bushes.

Anatoly Savran

Unfortunately, this is not a variety for the South. In my environment, more than two dozen winegrowers abandoned the PZ. Yes, a variety for the market, clusters of up to three kg, but if you try it - it’s a watery berry, sugar is low, it tends to rot berries inside the bunch, and you can’t crawl to it with any tool. Against the Talisman with Tamerlan does not withstand competition (in our conditions).

Evgeny Anatolevich

And for my North a great variety. By the size of the bunch, the Talisman never once stood close to the PZ. The consistency of the berry is marmalade, uniform from the skin to the center, the skin is not felt at all when eating. A watery and unsweetened berry only with a specific overload. And the Talisman, on the contrary, has a thin heartlet. For diseases, PZ is noticeably more stable.

Aleksey Aleksandrovich

Hello! For 15 years, I have never seen cracked berries of the Gift in Zaporizhia on our site, no matter what the rains have been over the years. This grape is all good: a gorgeous bunch, a large berry ... that color would be more beautiful - there would be no price ...

Fursa Irina Ivanovna

PZ in my vineyard is the most common variety, four bushes, all the rest from one to three, always fruitful, tasty, very good acid-sugar balance, coarse, three bushes are slightly peas, one planted between Ataman and NiZina never has any bunches on it A kilogram does not happen. Seedlings still go away with a bang, I'm not going to leave.

Danchenko Nikolay

Honestly, after landing, he regretted the choice, having read about simple taste. But waiting for ripening and tasting the berries from his bushes, I am glad that I left. I would not say that the taste is simple. I read somewhere about the taste of ripe apples, my wife recalled the taste of the pulp of an unripe white plum. In general, it can be called some, but not simple. And if you add painlessness, large berries, dense pulp, then now I do not regret planting this variety at all. It was raining during flowering. therefore there is a pea

Vasily Viktorovich

So, Gift Zaporozhye grapes are a relatively new variety with stable properties, the advantages of which completely cover the disadvantages. But in order for the grapevine of this variety to become a real highlight of your garden, it is necessary to provide the plant with regular and proper care.
